INTERNATIONAL COSPLAY LEAGUE PRELIMINARIES ARRIVE IN FINLAND!

At Comic Con Finland you can see the first preliminaries for the International Cosplay League -competition. ICL is a Spanish cosplay competition, where the participants compete in two categories; solos and duos. 

In the solo category the evaluation is focused on craftsmanship. The competition doesn’t include a performance. The competition day itself consists of photography, pre-judging and stage presentation. During the state presentation the contestants pose on stage for the audience, but the presentation is not evaluated. First and second place will be awarded in the competition.

In the duo category contestants compete for best craftmanship and performance. The competition day consists of stage rehearsals, photography, pre-judging and stage performance. First and second place will be awarded in the competition.

The winners of both categories will be representing Finland in Madrid in Spain during 14.-15.9.2024 at the Japan Weekend-event. https://www.japanweekend.com/madrid/

PERKS OF COMPETING

 

  1. Contestants receive a weekend ticket to Comic Con Finland. If the contestant has already bought a ticket to the event, terms of the purchase policy will apply. 
  2. Contestants are offered small sweet and savory snacks and drinks backstage.
  3. Solo contestants can make use of an assistant backstage to help them dress, etc. Contestants must inform the competition organizer about the assistant in advance. The assistant must have purchased a ticket at least for the competition day. 

ADDITIONALLY

  • On Sunday the winners will participate in a program, where they are interviewed and their cosplays are showcased. A host will interview the winners, so the program doesn’t require any preparations in advance from the contestants. 
  • Contestants are provided a list of a questions in advance, which they may familiarize themselves with.
  • Contestants must participate in the program in the cosplay that they used in the preliminaries.

APPLYING TO COMPETE

Who can apply?

To apply to compete in the Finnish preliminaries of the ICL, you must fill an application form. The application process is not a race, as every application will be evaluated. Being selected is influenced primarily by the contestant’s motivation to compete, their general level of skill and the amount of effort that has been put into the application. Contestants aren’t required to have prior experience in competing, if the contestants motivation and skill are otherwise sufficient. The application must include details of the character and source with which you intend to compete. The character cannot be changed after the portfolio has been sent. 

You will be asked the following questions in the application form:

  • The contestant’s name, possible nicknames and email
  • The applicant’s competition history (max latest or best 5 placements) and/or costume history (max latest or best 5 costumes)
  • Links to the applicant’s social media pages
  • Tell us about yourself as a costume maker
  • Tell us about yourself as a performer (only in the duo category)
  • Tell us about the cosplay. Why did you choose this one? How have you made it or how do you plan to make it? What techniques have you used or plan to use?
  • Tell us about your performance. What inspired you to make this performance? What is the plot of the performance and what do you plan to do in your performance?

A maximum of 10 contestants are selected in both categories and in both categories two (2) are selected for the waiting list.
